One of the biggest preconceived notions about military life is that service members never have any fun while deployed. After going through four deployments with my husband, I can definitely tell you that idea is a GIANT misconception! Deployments are certainly not constant parties by any stretch of the imagination, but even in the toughest environments, service members still manage to find ways to enjoy themselves, especially with a little help from fun care packages!
The idea behind sending fun care packages is to give your loved one a little bit of fun in their life! Since everyone’s idea of fun is a little different, you should definitely customize the box’s contents to your loved one’s tastes. If they LOVE reading, but hate board games, then a box of paperback novels is the way to go. If they are all about a good comedy, then make sure to add in a few movies that will make them laugh.
- a deck of playing cards
- travel-sized board games – I really like these magnetic ones
- crossword/sudoku puzzle books
- NERF football
- video games
- funny movies
- nostalgic games from their childhood
I’ve linked a few items from Amazon, but you can find fun contents just about anywhere, like dollar stores or the Dollar Spot at Target. You could even have little ones pick out a few puzzles or games to send to your loved one.
Designs for Fun Care Packages
To me, fun care packages are all about games so the box’s decorations should reflect that! Whether it’s card games or video games, there are plenty of ways to decorate that bring a little extra fun to your care package.
If your loved one is a big fan of video games (and you want to send them a sassy care package), then this design would be perfect! You could focus on video games in general like the above example or use your loved one’s favorite video game as inspiration – for example, if you know they love to Play warzone tournaments for money, some military-themed elements probably wouldn’t go amiss to bring what they see on the screen to life. Video games are a great method of escaping the world around you, which is why many people tend to play their favorites. Perhaps you could even inform your loved one of a website like Gamulator. That has various video games on there that people can play from their computer. For example, they have fire emblem rom on there. That’s a popular game that many people would love to play again. Your loved one should be interested in that website if they are a big fan of video games.
This design would be perfect for a box full of card games. I love the idea of using actual playing cards and poker chips (or poker chip stickers) as the decoration.
Even though their work may be serious, your deployed loved one would welcome a break in the form of a fun care package!
