No matter how old, your child will love a little taste of home while they're deployed. Here are 10 care package ideas for sons or daughters!

Being the parent of a military service member can be a unique circumstance, but one thing is definitely universal in military life: the love of care packages during deployment! No matter how old they may be, your child will love a care package packed with a little taste of home while they’re deployed.

If you’ve never decorated a care package for your child before, no worries! It doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated; here are some tips to get you started.

Think about your child’s interests or hobbies.
Favorite hobbies and interests are a great place to start when trying to come up with a theme for a care package. Think about favorite sports, sports teams, food, video games, music, travel destinations…the list goes on and on!

Choosing a care package theme that reflects the unique interests of your child is a surefire way to ensure they love it.

A fun idea here would be a nostalgia-themed box with fun things reminiscent of his or her childhood! As their parent, you remember your child’s varied interests and could decorate and fill the box based on those fun childhood memories.

Shop for decorating supplies on sale.
Decorating and filling a care package can be expensive so it makes perfect sense to save money wherever you can! An easy way to do just that is by purchasing decorating supplies on sale or with coupons. Most craft stores have frequent sales, but you need to be prepared to shop! Planning a care package or two in advance can help you take advantage of those opportunities.

Take advantage of pre-printed paper and themed stickers.
Pre-printed paper and stickers make decorating a care package really easy. Paper comes in so many different patterns that you are bound to find something for just about any theme you can think of! You can also use themed stickers or alphabet stickers to help decorate the box.

Pro tip: if you’re using a large flat rate USPS box, you’ll just need 3 pieces of 12×12 scrapbook paper to cover the flaps and the very bottom.
