I married a coffee lover. Flavored, black, iced, hot, seasonal, regular, first thing in the morning, middle of the day…my husband has never met a cup of coffee he doesn’t love. He swears he has the best method of making coffee, the Best Coffee Maker, the best beans or granules, the best everything! I’ve never met anyone who was so crazy for it. So you can imagine how weird it is for him to be married to me: a woman who does not drink coffee, at all. Period. End of sentence. I know, it’s a mystery to me as well. But I’d like to think I make up for it by making his coffee every morning (he taught me how when we first started dating) and putting together fun coffee care packages when he’s deployed!
Now, each deployment is different, but my husband has always had mixed success when it comes to good quality coffee while overseas. He definitely misses his coffee maker and his coffee so throughout the years, I’ve sent a few coffee items to help make that morning (or late afternoon) cup a bit tastier.
Contents for Coffee Care Packages
As always, the name of the game here is definitely to choose items that your loved one will like. If your loved one has a specific coffee roast, flavor and/or brand they absolutely love, then that is what you should send. But if you’d like to try a few new items, here are some great suggestions.
A French press makes coffee a little more luxurious, even when life may be the exact opposite. You can find a ton of different styles so pick one that best fits your budget. However, a lot of styles have glass bodies which I highly recommend not sending because there’s a risk of it breaking. Try and find one that’s primarily stainless steel to avoid that!
Another great coffee essential to be cautious about is a coffee mug. Selecting a plastic one (like this Copco one) helps reduce the risk of it being damaged in shipping, either overseas or home. My husband actually owns two of these and loves them. You can choose from a variety of colors to help personalize it a bit. If you want to send a super cute one, Etsy has a ton of great options. Just be sure to double wrap it in bubble wrap before shipping it!
If you’d like to send coffee itself, definitely send your loved one’s favorite, but don’t feel like you have to stick to just that! I like sending mini bags of coffee (like these from World Market) because it mixes things up for my husband without having to commit to an entire full-sized bag. You can also skip the big name brands and send a bag or two from a favorite local coffee shop. Don’t forget goodies like powdered creamer or a package of biscotti to with their coffee!
