Last year, my entrance into the world of the military influencer was a little frightening, to say the least. I felt very much out of place in a room filled with the best and the brightest in military veteran and spouse entrepreneurs, writers and advocates. But they quickly accepted me and my talents, passions and experiences as valid, worthy and something to celebrate. It was a fairly transformative experience for me and propelled me to take Countdowns and Cupcakes to the next level in 2018.
So you can imagine that I was more than excited to return to the conference this year, but there was still a little hesitation on my part. Would I get as much out of it as last time? Would the connections I made last year be as powerful this year? I shouldn’t have been worried.
Because here’s the thing about the Military Influencer Conference: it’s what you make of it.
You walk in that first day with some slight hesitation perhaps, but your ambitions and goals quickly get the better of you. You know what you want out of the next few days and are willing to get over your discomfort of self-promotion. You’re inspired by the keynote speakers, take furious notes during the breakout sessions and find yourself gravitating towards your brand new conference friends.
You ask questions, hesitantly at first, but with more and more confidence as the days go on. You share your big pie-in-the-sky goals for the first time to anyone who does not share DNA or a last name with you. You’re encouraged when faces light up and eager offers of help are made.
Suddenly you find yourself answering other people’s questions, collaborating and sharing best practices. You get why this conference is so important!
And then as you walk away that last day, full of plans and action items, you realize that this conference was more than just a business networking opportunity. It was an opportunity for you to find your people. The group of people who get you and your unique situation in life, appreciate what you’re doing, act as your biggest cheerleaders and never cease to inspire you. The group of people who went from strangers to “friends” on the internet to friends in real life.
I feel so incredibly lucky to be accepted into such a hard-working, inspiring group of men and women who are doing great things in the world. We’re all bound by a common camo-clad thread, but our passions and talents are as different and widespread as possible. This makes the group of military influencers I spent the past four days with an exceptionally strong powerhouse with the potential to change the world. I can’t wait to see what they accomplish and am excited to be a part of it.
Be ready for big things in my little part of the Internet! I walked away from Orlando more energized than I’ve been in a long time and I am already making plans for some new aspects of Countdowns and Cupcakes.
In celebration of my time at MICOrlando, I want to share a little gift with you all. From now through September 30, all of my care package designs are 25% with code MIC2018. You can shop here or on my Etsy shop.
