Even if the temps are too warm to break out your sweaters and boots, there’s no shortage of fall spirit when you stroll through the grocery store aisles, especially if you’re shopping for fall care package contents! Fall care packages are some of my personal favorites to shop for

But don’t forget that even if you decide to send non-fall themed items, a little wrapping paper makes everything fit the theme.  I used that in a fall care package for my husband and couldn’t be happier with the way that box turned out.

Fall Care Package Contents

A fall care package can slip quickly into the junk food category. For some folks, that’s totally great, but if your loved one wants healthier options, try sending a mix of food and non-food contents.

Fall-flavored food
From the very second that the weather starts to cool off, it seems like every food product out there is suddenly available in a limited-edition fall flavor. If you’re looking for healthier items, consider sending granola, pumpkin seeds or flavored nuts.

Thanks to the popularity of pumpkin spice everything, you can fill your fall care package pretty easily, but don’t forget that pumpkin isn’t the only flavor of the season. Apple-flavored items are under appreciated when it comes to fall care package contents, in my opinion.  Consider sending apple chips or even apple-flavored granola or oatmeal to give your loved one a break from pumpkin everything.

Also think about other food items that may be appropriate as the weather cools, even if they aren’t seasonally flavored. Items like soup, hot chocolate or even tea can still be comforting additions to your box.

Fall scents
Some of the strongest memories and emotions we have are tied to our sense of smell. Think about it: what says Thanksgiving more than the smell of turkey and stuffing cooking? What says football season more than the smell of chili on the stove?

That’s why your fall care package contents should definitely include a few fall-scented items! Even though I love them, a candle probably isn’t the best idea for a care package. Oftentimes open flames aren’t allowed and the candle could definitely melt en route.  Instead, I recommend a fall-scented air freshener to add that touch of homeyness. Fall potpourri is another good option; just remember to package heavily scented items in a way that keeps their scent from leaking into other items.

Cozy items
Flannel shirts (my husband really likes these) and snuggly blankets really make the season. Depending on weather, items like hand warmers or cold-weather clothing (like extra warm socks!) may be good additions to your fall care package. If you’re sending your fall care package to a girl, there are tons of really cute fall-themed shirts out there for women.

I also love the idea of cutting out paper leaves and writing little notes on them.  You could also try sending fall leaves from home, but they may crush and turn to dust during shipping.  However, little ones could color or decorate paper leaves.
