Wedding Wednesday: Getting Ready

Our wedding day was slated to be cold.  After a full week of sunny skies highs in the 70’s, I was keeping my fingers crossed we wouldn’t get rain and temperatures below 50.  I had visions of our beautiful outdoor ceremony getting shuffled under the tent and of the whole experience being miserable because everyone was half frozen.

So I was understandably upset when I saw snow on my way to the hair salon. SNOW.  Not exactly what I had in mind for the day.  However, by the time my hair and make-up were finished, the snow had stopped and the skies had even cleared a little bit. But it was still *so* cold.

Luckily, we spent quite a bit of time in the bridal suite to make me forget about how cold it was, at least for a little while.  We were pretty well removed from the craziness of all the set up downstairs, which kept me very calm and relaxed.

I loved having time to just relax with my bridesmaids.  Everyone came pretty much completely ready, minus the odd hair and make-up touch-up, so we just got to be.  That is something I would highly recommend to every bride-to-be: find an opportunity to just sit and do nothing before the craziness of the day starts for real.

This photo is brought to you courtesy of my awesome MOH, who brought me hot chocolate and pretzels, which kept me energized and on the right side of hangry.  That’s another thing I did quite a bit of before getting ready, I ate.  I had heard enough horror stories of brides passing out at the altar to risk walking down the aisle on an empty stomach!

Before I knew it, A.J. was telling me it was time to get dressed. Eeek! Putting on that dress made everything seem very real (even when I was just putting it on to get it altered), so I was prepared for this to be the moment I freaked out a little bit.

But this time I didn’t freak out at all.  It felt perfect.

I knew all along that I wanted a very simple, modest, all lace dress with as little poof as possible. After a lot of “no’s”, I finally found the one I’d been picturing all along. I cannot image myself getting married in any other dress!

Don’t tell the front, but the back of the my dress was pretty much my favorite part. Since I was so covered up in the front, I felt really comfortable having a bare back. It didn’t necessarily keep me all that warm, but it looked great!

I like this shot of my mom tying on my sash, but honestly it was an excuse to share one more photo of the back of the dress, just because I love it so.

I knew there was only one person to be part of my garter photo and that was one of my college roommates. She got married in the spring and there is almost the exact same photo of me putting on her garter!

A quick hair fluff and lipstick swipe and I was officially ready to get married!

And then, because it was his wedding too and he’s just so gosh darn handsome, here’s two of my favorite photos of A getting ready.

I mean, seriously, look at him! Poor guy had a small wedding outfit blooper, as in his vest was too small. The store had messed up and given him the wrong size. After conferring with my mom and bridesmaids, he determined he could not tough it out in the current vest and had to send one of his friends to go get the right one! Luckily it made it just in time for the ceremony, but none of the pre-ceremony portraits.

Coming up next week: our wacky and wonderful wedding party!
